July 2018
For older people, a pet’s companionship is exactly what the doctor ordered. More than a best friend or a member of the family – they can be crucial to a happy and fulfilling life. Research from the Journal of Gerontology suggests that an antidote to anxiety and loneliness can come on four legs, not just on two. The study found that pet-therapy had a measurable positive effect on the wellbeing of residents. Residents who petted, walked, groomed and played with their pets reported significantly reduced feelings of loneliness and anxiety. (MR Banks, 2002)
We know that as we get older the companionship of a faithful pet becomes more and more important. That’s why at Evergreen Retirement Village our doors are open to wagging tails, furry paws and four legged friends of all kinds.
We encourage all prospective residents to consider bringing their pets with them when they make the move. It is important to us that our community is a welcoming and safe environment for you and your pet.
Your pet will feel right at home in friendly Pakenham, nestled amongst parkland and on the edge of country Victoria and magical Gippsland beyond. For dogs (and residents) who love the great outdoors there are dozens of walking tracks right on our doorstep and parks nearby to get off the leash and stretch their legs. Less adventurous pets are safe from traffic free to patrol the garden areas, private streets and sleepy cul-de-sacs of the village layout. All residents are welcome to install a doggy door in their home and many residences have an enclosed yard. The Green Cross Vet Clinic is just around the corner and Pakenham Shopping Centre has everything your pet could ever need.
One of the highlights of my job is getting to know the all the furry friends that call our community home. It never takes them long to realise my secret stash of Schmackos treats is never too far away!
If you are considering a move to Evergreen be sure to ask me how we can best accommodate you and your pet. If you are coming in for a tour, we encourage you to bring your pet with you to see if they like the village as much as you do.
If you haven’t already, give me a call to arrange a tour or pop in any time for a look around.
We can’t wait to meet you and your furry friend.
Yours sincerely
Annie Warner
